Welcome to the Rantoul Police Department Homepage. The Rantoul Police Department exists to serve and protect the citizens of the Village of Rantoul. The force is made up of 32 sworn officers including the chief, a deputy chief, two lieutenants, five sergeants and 22 patrol officers. The Police Department also operates a 24 hour a day - 7 day a week dispatch center that handles dispatching of police, ambulance and fire calls.

In addition to normal police activities, the Department also handles motorist assists, the neighborhood watch programs and many public assistance types of activities.

Another program that the Police Department operates is the Citizen Police Academy. This program is operated in cooperation with Champaign County Sheriff's Office, the University of Illinois Police Department, the Urbana Police Department, the Champaign Police Department, the Mahomet Police Department, and District 10 of the Illinois State Police, the Police Training Institute is offering the Champaign County Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is an educational and informative program that allows citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that face law enforcement efforts in Champaign County. The goals of the citizen academy are:

1. to provide stronger citizen/police relationships
2. to enhance lines of communication; and
3. the reduction of crime in our community

This program helps citizens to better understand the daily operations of the Police Department, the decision making process, problems that Police face as well as many other aspects of the department. This program is a valuable tool for interested citizens of the Village of Rantoul.
