Any new electrical contractors
wishing to be licensed by the Village of Rantoul
will now need to apply for an electrical license
and must pass an examination prior to the issuance
of the license.
Candidates for the General Electrical
Contractor License (Class A) must pass the “Standard
Master Electrician” examination administered
by the International Code Council (ICC) or its
designated testing agent. Candidates for Journeyman
Electrical Contractor License (Class B –
which allows for 1 & 2 Family and Multi-family
residential electrical wiring only) must pass
the “Standard Journeyman Electrician”
examination administered by the ICC or its designated
testing agent and lastly, candidates for the Maintenance
Electrical Contractor License (Class C –
which allows for building maintenance repair wiring
only) must pass the “Standard Maintenance
Electrician” examination administered by
the ICC or its designated testing agent.
Each applicant shall pay to the
Village Comptroller, the non-refundable sum of
$50 when they register for a license and this
sum shall be applied as a fee towards the first
year’s license or portion thereof, if the
applicant is successful in completing the exam
and obtaining a license.
The licensing period for electrical licenses runs
January 1 through December 31 of each year and
the license fee is $50.00 for Class A and Class
B Electrical licenses and HVAC licenses and $25.00
for Class C Electrical licenses. (Please see the
