Any new electrical contractors wishing to be licensed by the Village of Rantoul will now need to apply for an electrical license and must pass an examination prior to the issuance of the license.

Candidates for the General Electrical Contractor License (Class A) must pass the “Standard Master Electrician” examination administered by the International Code Council (ICC) or its designated testing agent. Candidates for Journeyman Electrical Contractor License (Class B – which allows for 1 & 2 Family and Multi-family residential electrical wiring only) must pass the “Standard Journeyman Electrician” examination administered by the ICC or its designated testing agent and lastly, candidates for the Maintenance Electrical Contractor License (Class C – which allows for building maintenance repair wiring only) must pass the “Standard Maintenance Electrician” examination administered by the ICC or its designated testing agent.

Each applicant shall pay to the Village Comptroller, the non-refundable sum of $50 when they register for a license and this sum shall be applied as a fee towards the first year’s license or portion thereof, if the applicant is successful in completing the exam and obtaining a license.

The licensing period for electrical licenses runs January 1 through December 31 of each year and the license fee is $50.00 for Class A and Class B Electrical licenses and HVAC licenses and $25.00 for Class C Electrical licenses.
